Slide into Summer Reading: A 3 and 4 year-old reading initiative
In partnership with the Spartanburg Academic Movement, Quality Counts is offering a special reading initiative for 3 and 4 year-old classrooms called Slide into Summer Reading during the summer months of June and July.
With the goal of classrooms reading a total of 1,200 minutes, at home or at school, over the months of June and July, we will provide each classroom with a special “Book of the Week” as well as some suggested activities to support learning opportunities connected to the chosen book. Teachers in participating classrooms will be asked to log the number of minutes they read aloud to their students each day. Also, the teacher will create a bar graph chart showing the number of minutes read each week, so students can easily see their reading progress!
Parents and guardians will also receive a tracking sheet to log the time they spend reading to their student at home. They can sign and return the sheet to their child’s teacher to add their home-reading minutes to the classroom graph chart.
Each participating child will receive a free book to take home at the end of July
– and –
programs that reach the total reading goal of 1,200 minutes will receive a pizza/veggie/ice-cream and fruit party!
Let’s all Slide into Summer Reading so our youngest learners will be ready to go in the fall!
Please RSVP to Barbara Manoski, via phone or email, by May 12th as the book order will be placed on May 13th.
